Harvest Hell v1 (Poste-Jam Update)


We are proud of the attention this little game got during Godot Wild Jam 62, standing among the most rated games throughout the duration of the voting period. It showed that people were interested in it, something which was confirmed by the large amount of feedback we received.

Though at the moment we are focusing on a larger project of ours and  we don't plan to work on this title anymore, I've tried making some tweaks and adding some minor features in respect to all the feedback we received. There were many interesting suggestions in that feedback, but I haven't managed to implement everything. Though I do hope to make the bullets feel more rhythmic at some point, perhaps by changing the local bullet generation timers on each turret to a global one. There won't be any update for a while, as we are focusing on our larger project. I hope you enjoy the new content and find the balancing updates enjoyable.

Update Summary

Bug Fixes:

  • Current Highscore wasn't displayed correctly at the game over screen when you had failed to make a new highscore. This issue has been fixed.

New Features:

  • Added a more clear visual indication for when the Slow Motion Special ability is fully charged.
  • New Plant (Glowstalk): A slow growing plant that provides the player with a defensive option. Its glow destroys bullets and prevents them from spawning within it. 
    • Player starts with 1 Seed of Glowstalk. 
    • Glowstalk is worth 200 points.
    • It takes 60s for it to grow into a harvestable crop (Stage 1 -> 30s, Stage 2 -> 60s)
    • A glowing bubble about 100pixels in radius spawns out of this plant upon bullet generation frequency. 
      • Stage 1: 0.1 Seconds after its planted, and every 8 seconds after that. A bubble spawns for 3 seconds.
      • Stage 2: 0.1 Seconds after it grows to this stage, and every 9 seconds after that. A bubble spawns for 5 seconds.
      • Stage 3: 0.1 Seconds after it grows to this stage, and every 11 seconds after that. A bubble spawns for 10 seconds. Essentially Bubble remains up with a 1 second drop period. 
  • Combo Multipliers: When harvesting a plant, the points you earn from it are multiplied by this modifier. Furthermore when harvesting a plant it increases this multiplier. Each plant offers different increment value to this modifier. The multiplier resets to x1.0 when the player gets hit. This feature was added in order to further reward players for not getting hit, and therefore improve the viability of other strats in comparison to the Kamikaze strat.  The combo multiplier doesn't increase while in i-frames.
    • Corn : + x0.2 Combo Multiplier per Harvest.
    • Glowstalk: +x0.1 Combo Multiplier per Harvest.
    • Dizzyberry: +x0.5 Combo Multiplier per Harvest.
    • Beetdrake: +x1.0 Combo Multiplier per Harvest.
    • Graspberry: +x0.4 Combo Multiplier per Harvest
    • Pumpkin: +x0.1 Combo Multiplier per Harvest.

Rebalances:

  • The pattern of the Dizzyberry felt too chaotic. It's attack pattern was changed to make it easier to dodge, without lessening its influence upon the map.
  • The point values of all plants/seeds were changed. 
    • Corn was deemed too strong, making the Kamikaze strat an absolute winning strat. Among other changes, Corn's value was reduced to 100 Points. Considering its also the fastest to collect, it also functions better as a currency that makes it more viable to trade for other seeds. 
    • Dizzyberry was shifted to 400 Points, to accomodate for Corn taking its place. 
    • Beetdrake was shifted to 800 points, to accomodate for Glowstalk taking its place at 200 points. 
    • Graspberry was shifted to 1200 points. 
    • Pumpkin was shifted to 1600 points. 
  • Corn's growth was slightly slowed down by 1 second per stage ( Stage 1: 4s -> 5s, Stage 2: 4s -> 5s)
  • Slightly increased the minimum distance between two plants. This was done to make it slightly easier for the player to harvest adjacent plants without being harmed.

Special Charged Indication

When your Special Charge is full, there's some... SHAKY indication to show it!

Dizzyberry's new pattern

Starting with a burst of bullets, the Dizzyberry grows fast to stage to, where it starts shooting rays of bullets in a spinning manner around it. Collection gets even more peaceful.
